UPDATE FROM THE GM • May 9, 2025

I was informed today by LPOA Community Services that they have collected evidence of Zebra Mussels in our lakes. To what extent they exist we do not know other than the fact that they have arrived. This shines some light on the changes in the water clarity that we have seen in 2023 and 2024 so we believe they may have been here for several years.

We’ve had a span of over 12 years during which we prevented them through our Zebra Mussel prevention program. We also knew that their arrival was inevitable as all local area lakes have them, and as an aggressively invasive species they prove an ongoing battle for even experienced managers.

While it’s unfortunate that they’ve reached our lakes, it is not cause for alarm—as we have learned from the managers of other local lakes. We will notice some changes in lake clarity and biology over the coming years.

Moving forward we will continue our Zebra Mussel Program with Advise, Educate and Manage. We have advised our lake management company Solitude and we are advising you herein. We will work with Solitude to get educational materials regarding the effects of Zebra Mussels and get them to you through the Transparency tab of our Website, Blog Page, and E-Blasts and Facebook.

Mark Reid
