Lake Treatement Update | May 13, 2024

With the amount of repetitive heavy rainfall we’ve had in the last week, we’ve continued to watch and evaluate for the optimal time to apply treatment to the lakes.

On May 8, 2024, The lake water level was recorded at 6-8” inches over full pool. This means the East Lake Spill structure was overflowing with 6-8” water which creates a significant flow throughout the East Lake. We needed this flow to stop so that the East Lake will be in a static condition for when we apply the treatments to the surface and expect them to descend up to 15 feet in the coves directly below where the chemical will be distributed.

Drone footage was conducted and those images can be seen below.

We are scheduled with Blue Valley Laboratories to treat sections of the East Lake on Tuesday, May 14, 2024.

We treat in sections to maintain healthy levels of oxygen in the lake. Depleting the oxygen from the lake too quickly can lead to a fish kill and throw off the balance of the ecosystem in the lake.

So, with this in mind, Blue Valley Laboratories will be treating the affected areas each week for the next 2 to 3 weeks and we will continue to track progress with drone images. We aim to have an update to residents by Monday, May 20th

A full length Transparency Report on the Lake Treatment plan, including details about the methods employed and timing of treatments will be coming soon.
