Lake Treatment Update | May 23, 2024

From the GM
May 23, 2024

Continued Good News!

1.   After the thunderstorms earlier in the week the lake flow has settled down and we had another perfect day to finish the entire 1st application of the product to treat the nuisance aquatic plants in our East Lake. Drone footage was shot on Monday by the LPOA Community Services and the footage was given to our expert contractor, Blue Valley Laboratories. The initial application from last week worked very well but it was planned by Blue Valley to only treat half of some coves like LaCosta to prevent oxygen depletion and resultant fish kill. This was very successful and we did not see one single dead fish or any fish at the surface in distress. Today, Blue Valley finished the balance of Brockton Cove, LaCosta Cove and the various hot spots that were evidenced by the Drone footage. The combination of three products in varying applications has done a wonderful job and the lake looks great. We continue to be confident that the lake will be fully navigable and visually pleasing for Memorial Day. Starting the summer with the Lake at full pool is an additional blessing. Later this year, we will test the bottom of the lake in random areas for any trace of copper sulfate. However, since copper sulfate is water-soluble and breaks down quickly when placed in water, copper sulfate levels are unlikely to be detectable in a large lake like ours due to dilution and natural processes. Any trace levels are sure to be de minimis. We will continue to monitor the lake and we will be ready along with Blue Valley to do a second application anywhere where the growth may flare up again this summer.

2. Additionally, Our pools look fantastic this year and we appreciate all the work the LPOA Maintenance Staff did as well as our contractors this spring to get the pool facilities refreshed and looking new again. We hope you truly enjoy the beauty of Lakewood this weekend.

Best Regards,

Mark Reid
