Greetings from the Lakewood Security Committee!

The first summer of contracting with Metro Public Safety to be on site each evening proved to be a measurable benefit to our community. Between May and the first part of September of 2026, LPOA staff with the support of Metro were able to perform about twice the number of ID checks when compared with 2025. These ID checks resulted in the identification of a higher incidence of trespassers. Metro’s response to “teen-takeover” incidents was especially valuable with respect to mitigating potential damage to LPOA amenities.

The successful collaboration between the LPOA and Metro has led to the decision to keep Metro involved in Lakewood via daily drive throughs, as well as for dispatch if needed. Renewal of the Metro Public Safety’s contract to be on site each evening next summer is part of the planned operational budget for 2027.

As school activities are again full in swing and the holiday season is approaching, we would like to remind everyone that crimes of opportunity constitute most of the crimes in Lakewood.

We can all help to reduce “opportunity crimes” in our community by doing simple things, such as:

• Keeping our garages doors closed
• Locking our exterior doors to make our homes less attractive for entry and potential larceny
• Keeping our cars locked and not leaving valuable items in view (such as phones, computers, and Christmas purchases)
• Remind our driving teens of these safety precautions

Overall, Lakewood continues to have a low incidence of crimes compared to other areas of Lee’s Summit. This CRIME MAP is a nice resource to see what is going on in Lakewood and other areas. “Crimemapping” is an interactive Website that allows you to view what crimes have been reported in a specific area. You can search by location, a time window, and then display the crime reports for your search. Using your address, you can view reported events within a radius relative to home.
