SNOW REMOVAL POLICY

Snow removal in Lakewood starts as soon as snow accumulation reaches two inches. The goal of the maintenance crew is to have all streets plowed and treated by 6:00 AM for the residents’ morning commute to work and school, obviously dependent on when snowfall begins. Storms are unpredictable and come with many variables, therefore, please keep in mind that each stormand its circumstances dictate the policy of snow removal and what LPOA Staff can reasonably and safely do to adhere to it.

The LPOA is responsible for snow removal on all streets within Lakewood with the exception of: Lakewood Blvd., Lake Dr., Gregory Dr., Channel Dr., Dick Howser Dr., Fairway Homes Dr., Northgate Crossing and Beechwood. These streets are the responsibility of the City of Lee’s Summit.

Driveways and Sidewalks Responsibility of the Parcels: Lakewood Bay, Landings, Lakeshore Townhomes, Lakeshore Condos, Waters Edge, Clubhouse Cottages, Lakewood Shores, Chapel Ridge-Woods, and Chapel Ridge-Greens. Lakewood Maintenance Does All Other Streets.

TIPS TO FOLLOW:

• Park as many cars as possible within your driveway. If a street is crowded with vehicles, it cannot be plowed or treated property.
• Keep curb clear of obstacles (trashcans, boxes, etc.)
• When using snow blowers or shoveling snow from your driveway, please try to direct output to the yard and not into the street. If possible, clear snow from around fire hydrants so they can be easily located during emergencies.
• Do not make snow tunnels or “snow forts” on or near the street and driveways.
• Please be patient with maintenance! If you feel the job was not done properly, you are welcome to contact the administrative office. Staff’s first priority after a snow storm it to open up the roadways, followed by a return to each area for more detailed clean up.

PLOWING IN A CUL-DE-SAC

• Plows can only displace snow and are not capable of lifting and depositing snow in a different area.
• Drivers using plows are instructed to avoid pushing snow near mailboxes and driveways as much as possible. However, the location of driveway entrances and the close proximity of mailboxes along the curb line do not always allows for this possibility. Consequently, it is not unusual for snow to pile up when using plows, requiring additional shoveling. This is especially true if cars are parked in the cul-de-sac.
• Cars parked in the street further complicate plowing efforts by disrupting the ability of the plow to move snow along a continuous path. This can cause piles of snow to be pushed to the curb in an undesirable location.
• When multiple vehicles are present, maneuvering safely can become impossible. In such cases, plowing may be limited to opening up the straight portion of the street approaching the bulb.
• It is the goal of the drivers to divert snow to the adjacent drain in each cul-de-sac so that as soon as snow melt begins it will drain away from the street.
• Our drivers will not clear any snow berms left in front of driveways.
