Memo from the GM | UPDATE on the 2026 Fourth of July Fireworks Show
Between now and our last update on the LPOA Fireworks show, board and staff have collaborated to try and locate alternatives—at this time, we made the difficult but fiscally responsible decision to not host a show this year.
As previously published, the LPOA has not been able to secure a pyrotechnics company for the July 4, 2026 display due to lack of space, our history of problems, timing, and lack of availability.
After searching for 5 months and speaking to dozens of pyrotechnicians, one company agreed to do a show on July 3rd, however the City of Lee’s Summit will not issue permits on July 3rd due to staffing issues, with any available staff assisting the City of KC with World Cup events.
Additionally, the initial estimate of $30,000 for a 20 minute drone show increased to $45,000.00—something the board was not comfortable pulling from reserves, therefore the $30,000.00 previously authorized from Visions Reserve will be left in Visions Reserve Fund.
For our particular situation and the rapidly rising cost of explosives, we anticipate that future shows will cost somewhere in the range of $30,000.00. This is based on the estimate we received from the company that previously agreed to provide the display on July 3. Staff will submit this amount as a request for the 2027 LPOA budget for discussion later this year.
The LPOA Activities Committee plans to submit alternate and less expensive plans for July 4 celebrations in the future. Around us, many communities have dropped their displays due to rise in cost, labor shortages, safety risks, environmental concerns and logistics, so unfortunately we are not alone in the difficulties securing a fireworks display. Rest assured, we will continue to find ways to celebrate the holiday within the community.
Sincerely,
LPOA Staff & Board of Directors
